What is the NSF certificate in relation to water filtration?

NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) certification is independent verification that a water filtration product has been tested against specific NSF/ANSI standards for safety, integrity and filtration performance. It is the premier independent global organisation, backed by the World Health Organisation, for public health and safety relating to water quality and safety.

Why NSF certification is important

Independent certification gives customers confidence that a system’s capabilities have been assessed against recognised industry standards, rather than relying solely on a salesperson’s claims.

NSF certification verifies, through testing, that:

  • The system can reduce the contaminants claimed by the manufacturer.

NSF testing confirms that the system in question performs as claimed for the specific contaminants covered by its certification.

  • The system is structurally sound, and it doesn’t add harmful substances to the water.

Testing checks the materials and construction to make sure the system works for the intended application and doesn’t negatively affect water quality during use.

  • Advertising, product literature and product labelling do not contain false or misleading information.

NSF reviews how certified products are represented, helping to ensure any information provided to customers accurately reflects the system and its certified capabilities.

  • NSF conducts annual unannounced inspections of the production facility, and each model is periodically retested.

Ongoing inspections and periodic retesting ensure the product continues to meet NSF requirements after initial certification.

NSF/ANSI 42

Our CHF system is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 42, the standard specifically covering drinking water systems that improve the aesthetic and safety qualities of water:

  • Taste & odour: Stripping away the taste and smell of chlorine.

  • Appearance: Improving visual clarity.

  • Material safety: Making sure the unit itself doesn't introduce contaminants.

But NSF/ANSI 42 certification isn't the one single checkbox.

It's actually built on three separate pillars: here's where it gets important.

The three requirements behind NSF certification

  • Material Safety

Confirms that every internal component meets NSF's strict material-safety requirements, so no harmful chemicals leach into your home's water supply.

  • Structural Integrity

Verifies the housing can withstand extreme pressure spikes and heavy flow rates, protecting your home against leaks, cracks and system failure.

  • Performance

Verifies precise contaminant removal rates over time, ensuring consistent, lab-backed filtration from day one.

The Certification gap most filters don't mention

Most water filters on the market test for only two of the three pillars: material safety and structural integrity.

That means NSF has verified the plastic won’t leach chemicals into your water and checked that the housing won’t crack under line pressure. What they didn’t verify is whether the filter actually removes any contaminants.

A “component-only” certification is basically a stamp of approval for a sturdy, non-toxic pipe. It tells you the unit is safe to hold water, not that it actually treats it.

We test and certify our whole system against all three pillars, including performance. We don’t rely on assumptions: every contaminant-reduction rate is backed by independent, lab-proven results. You’re not just buying a plastic container; you’re buying actual filtration.

Your CHF NSF-certified system

Standard water filters often settle for basic safety ratings, proving the plastic is non-toxic and the shell won’t burst under pressure. Our whole-home systems actually certify what matters most for your home: real contaminant reduction.

By securing full-system NSF 42 certification across all three pillars, we verify every unit delivers lab-proven reductions in chlorine, smells and tastes from your main supply line straight to every tap in the house.

No relying on partial component listings or unverified claims. Every whole-home system comes with complete, full-system NSF validation, backing your filtration with lab-tested results from day one.

CHF Certified Capacity and Flow Rates

Our specific CHF systems that have full NSF 42 certification performance rates are:

System Filter configuration Flow rate (L/min) Capacity (L)
CHF - 6000 - 10” 10” G2 Sediment Reduction 10” G2 Softening resin 10” G2 Carbon Block 15 L/min 150,000 litres
CHF - 6000 - 15” 15” Sediment Reduction 15” Softening resin 15” Carbon Block 22.7 L/min 225,000 litres

Taps and faucets typically range between 5-8 L/min while a shower head is 7.5-9 L/min.

The average Australian household uses ~175,000 litres per annum (3).

Our performance results can also be seen on the NSF product page.
